Things I need for CES
Nov 30th
This is part laundry list, and part asking for ideas.
- A Flip, whether borrowing it or actually owning one
- a good way to lifestream
- a good livestream tool
- a better video editor than iMovie ’08
- Not essential, but a better digital camera would be lovely
- Maybe another battery for my MacBook, or a Hypermac
Yes, a few of these are way out there ideas. However, most of them I would LOVE recommendations on.
Chrome OS, boot time, and cars
Nov 30th
So, last week I installed Chrome OS.
Want to try it yourself? Open chrome browser, hide your taskbar, and you have it.
Right now it is just a browser with a shortcut menu and some UI tweaks.
I am excited to see a later build, and to dump it on a netbook, but right now, there is nothing all that amazing about it. A 7 second boot time is nice, but honestly, I think that is kind of a BS stat-choosing an OS based on boot time??
Thats like choosing a car based on how fast the gas tank fills, or how fast it turns on when you turn the key-how often do you shut down or restart? Me, once every two weeks. And I usually do it as I am going to bed, when boot time means nothing.
I am seeing this in more than just computer OS stats. There is a trend to quantify everything, and make metrics that don’t matter, yet things are still measured on.
Anyone need a blogger?
Nov 30th
I am going to CES in Las Vegas in a few weeks.
Does anyone need a blogger?
I dont need travel, lodging or entry expenses. I am going either way.
I just want the content that I will make to go to a good use. I know that my blog is not totally in the CES type market, so if there is any blog that needs a blogger/vlogger while I am there, I am your man.
Please use my contact from to get in touch with me. If you know someone who runs a tech or communications blog that cant make it to CES, let me know, and I will get in touch with them.
Why I hate Liberal Arts
Nov 29th
As many of you know, I am attending Hamline University.
And, it is a liberal arts school, and I am regretting attending it a bit.
I could be done with my major and minor at this point, yet I am stuck in classes like Survey of Western Music and Physics for Poets.
This is despite taking college physics classes in high school.
Also, I will buy anyone who can tell me why those two classes are relevant to either Marketing or Political Science.
So, basically, I am paying an extra $60,000 and giving up two years of my life to take classes that are not relevant or interesting.
This is why I hate that a college diploma is the new high school diploma-I wonder how many employers are missing out on good candidates because they have a degree requirement.
I think that a paradigm shift is truly needed.
What I learned from Tiger Woods (Or how I learned PR can fail)
Nov 29th
So, Tiger got in an accident.
Or, there was a spat with his wife.
Or, he was drunk/high/asleep.

Is a halo the best choice?
One thing that I am taking away from this is that a PR halo is not always a good thing. Sure, it can be.
But if the story you are feeding is so unbelieveable, and you know the truth will get out, get it out first.
Before the police report.
Before TMZ.
Get it out on your own terms.
What happened with Tiger is his unbelievable story led to speculation, and then when some of the truths were uncovered, and they were not far from the speculations, it looks bad.
Really bad.
His wife goes from badass rescuer to allegedly a spousal abuser. She went from rushing to the scene to save her husband to part of the situation.
He goes from an immortal sports god to a real human.
I was listening to AM 1500 this evening, and they were also speculating. Maybe he ran out of milk. Or wanted some Black Friday deals.
The point of this all is to point out that good spin and damage control is second to the truth. You need to make sure that your story is out-get in front of the speculation, get in front of the story, and you will come out better than any halo will protect you.
One of the hardest things that I have ever done
Nov 27th
…was PPTK
For those of you who dont know, PPTK is short for PowerPoint Tech Karaoke. This is where relativley reasonable adults get on stage, and make a fool of themselves.
You deliver a presentation that you have never seen before, and had no hand in making…
Its a bloody good time
My video is embeded below. I entered it in the contest-if I make the top 64, you will all vote if I advance…
Wish me luck!
I am thankful for…
Nov 26th
- My family-They are my rock, and always there for me
- My friends-social media, cigar, school, or however I know you, I am thankful for you
- My career-I am doing what I love, day after day, and getting paid for it.
- Living, working, and going to school in the cities
- All of the success that I have achieved.

My presentation on Interactive
Nov 19th
This is my presentation that I am giving at 2:30pm today on Interactive Marketing for my Foundation of Marketing class. My professor asked me to teach this class, so I am doing that. It focuses on social media, since that is what he requested, but I try to paint a bit of a holistic picture for them.
