Why I hate Liberal Arts
As many of you know, I am attending Hamline University.
And, it is a liberal arts school, and I am regretting attending it a bit.
I could be done with my major and minor at this point, yet I am stuck in classes like Survey of Western Music and Physics for Poets.
This is despite taking college physics classes in high school.
Also, I will buy anyone who can tell me why those two classes are relevant to either Marketing or Political Science.
So, basically, I am paying an extra $60,000 and giving up two years of my life to take classes that are not relevant or interesting.
This is why I hate that a college diploma is the new high school diploma-I wonder how many employers are missing out on good candidates because they have a degree requirement.
I think that a paradigm shift is truly needed.

I get the impression that you're interested in working for companies where having a degree is a litmus test. If that's the case, it seems like you should pound it out or consider your options. What could you do with an extra $60k and two years of your life? Is there start-up that would respect your skills over your certifications? Could you start something yourself now while you're less in debt than you'll be in two years?
Changing the system is a lot more difficult than figuring out whether the system is right for you.

Luckily, I have found a company that does not require a degree-they are much more focused on finding the right person.
I can see where it came from, it just seems like a silly requirement.

No I am not. I am sticking it out. This post is out of frustration while registering for classes and seeing what I have left-i am nearly done with my majors and have the required hard science and fine arts classes left.
